THE CHARACTERISTICS OF CERAMICS

Seo Emmemedia

Ceramic is a material known since ancient times: not surprisingly, many artifacts that come from the prehistoric era help us to reconstruct the eating habits, religious rites and lifestyles of the populations who lived many centuries ago.

The fortune of this material is mainly due to the numerous characteristics that make it widespread even today. Furthermore, thanks to knowledge and technological progress, in addition to the forms of high craftsmanship, ceramics plays an important role in various sectors, not only in the construction and artistic fields.

The malleability

In its natural state, ceramic is soft and ductile, and depending on the composition and the presence or not of water it can be more or less plastic. It can be worked by hand or through specific machinery, useful for giving the material the shape you want.

The hardness

Once dried or fired in special ovens, the ceramic is hard and its shape is defined; therefore the artifact can no longer be modified. The ceramic does not deform over time and has a good reaction to exposure to atmospheric agents.

The fragility

Although ceramic is generally a material characterized by excellent resistance and great hardness, one of its main characteristics is its fragility. If artifacts such as tiles have a certain resistance to scratches and scrapes, at the same time ceramic does not have great resistance to impacts, especially when we are talking about artistic artifacts, crockery and objects in terracotta and porcelain.

Antistatic and fire resistance

Ceramic also has excellent antistatic properties and is resistant to fire: for this reason it is widely used in the public and private building sector, just because it is considered a safe material, as regards both the emission of toxic substances and the conductivity in case of fire.

As part of the production of fine artistic ceramics, Piccadilly Ceramiche boasts a consolidated know-how able to wisely exploit the characteristics of the material, to create real masterpieces for furnishing and personalizing environments not only domestic, but also those reserved for the hospitality sector.
